Charming Downtown Birmingham Wedding

View More Photos

Amanda and Alan met at a Young Professionals small group. This was arranged through church and they have been inseparable since! Alan knew he wanted to propose to Amanda and decided to do it when they were on a cruise with his family. While in the Caribbean, the two went out to the back of the ship at sunset on the second day. They spent some time chatting away until the family beside them got done taking their hundredth picture. After that family had left they were finally alone. That is when Alan asked Amanda what her favorite part of the cruise was so far. She responded, "This moment, right now." She asked if it was the same for Alan and he responded, "It's about to be." Alan then got down on one knee and proposed on the ship's 4th deck while his sister snapped some photos from the 7th deck.

There wasn't a starting vision when Amanda and Alan started planning their wedding. They both wanted to go with something charming and elegant but also wanted people to have fun. Greenery, flowers, and lights were something they both agreed on wanting. They also wanted it to be in downtown Birmingham and to have the ceremony location be the same as the reception location. Flowers were the number one thing on Amanda's heart so they decided the colors were burgundy, some ivory, and greenery. They also made sure to include an arbor filled with garden roses. Alan's heart was mainly on the music so he was in charge of the pre-ceremony music, the music that they walked down the aisle to, and picking the DJ. Amanda's attire was a gown with long sleeves and lace which gave off a very soft and elegant look. Her bridesmaids wore long burgundy dresses to match the florals. Alan wore a navy suit with a burgundy tie. His groomsmen matched him but wore classic bowties instead of a long tie.

Some favorite memories of the night included the look of family and friends once they were announced as Mr. and Mrs.! Amanda's bridesmaids trying to convince her that rain on your wedding day is good luck. The DJ had formed a Congo line and at the end of the song, it was just Amanda and Alan in the middle. Lastly, was their wedding planner had set up a secret dinner for them in the wine cellar and they were able to just relax and laugh with each other for a moment. The wedding cake was a modern styled cake with streaks of gold spiraling around each section. Some advice from the couple to soon to be brides is, "Prioritize your budget according to what you want the most. Don't worry about paying moderate prices for the "typical" things. Buy that low cost, beautiful dress and get that amazing venue... or the other way around!!"
