Rainy Day Wedding

When planning the perfect wedding, there are many details that require attention. One of those details is having a backup plan in case it rains on your big day. Lindsay and Matt planned a beautiful outdoor ceremony at the gorgeous Abilena Plantation, but the weather had other plans. Everything and everyone was moved under the tent. But instead of letting the weather ruin their big day, the couple decided to make the wedding perfect under the tent and even had time to photograph outside!

As with many modern couples, Matt and Lindsay met through an online dating website. Matt lived in Virginia Beach and Lindsay lived in Greenville, North Carolina. The pair met at a halfway point in Edenton, North Carolina; about 1.5 hours away from where each lived. Though both were outside of their comfort zone, the couple was determined for their first date to be memorable! Matt brought a survival bag of food, wine, and blankets. They sat out by the water and talked almost all night!  The couple knew after that weekend that this relationship was going to be something pretty amazing and special.

Matt’s proposal has us swooning! One of Lindsay’s best friend’s daughter was walking in New York Fashion week. Lindsay really wanted to see her walk so the couple planned a trip to New York City. Although Matt had never visited the city, Lindsay had been several times. She did confess to Matt that the one place she had never been was to the Empire State building at night so that they could see the entire city. The couple had checked in on the first day, but was so exhausted from sight-seeing during the day that they wanted to relax. The next day was New York Fashion Week and Lindsay was so tired and wanted to stay in the hotel. Her friend had to practically had to push her in the shower to get ready. However, they group made it to the Empire State Building! Lindsay was taking in the sights with her friend’s daughter when she walked away and Matt came up. It was then that Matt got down on one knee and proposed. We love that it was so dark that Lindsay couldn’t see her ring until the couple finally went inside 20 minutes later!

Matt and Lindsay’s vision for their wedding was a combination of romantic, rustic, and vintage. The couple chose colors that would make a guest feel like they were in a romantic scene. The bride and groom colors were vintage pink, a dark purple, and gray. Lindsay adds that the couple chose Abilena Mansion not only because it was located on the water, but the mansion was originally build in 1927 and was perfect for their wedding.

When looking for Lindsay’s perfect dress, the bride knew that she wanted something that complimented her venue. Lindsay chose to go to a local bridal boutique in Greenville, North Carolina, where she found her stunning lace mermaid style gown. The bride completed her outfit with a beaded belt and cathedral lace veil. For the bridesmaids’ dresses, the bride originally wanted the girls in a pink outfit since that is her favorite color. However, like many brides will understand when they shop with their bridesmaids, Lindsay quickly found that pink was not her girl’s color. Instead she found a wine color v neck dress that was flattering for each bridesmaid! The flower girl dresses were designed by her maid of honor! For the guys, Lindsay wanted to dress them like it was 1920. The couple opted for a medium gray, three piece suit with light brown shoes. To complete the ensemble, the guys wore a pink and navy tie with a white and navy polka dot pocket square.

Lots of details went into this stunning wedding! Lindsay’s mother brought her own wedding dress and Lindsay took pictures wearing it to give to her mother as a present. The sterling silver cake knife and server were originally her grandmother’s. Attached to Lindsay’s bouquet was her baby bonnet from when she was brought home from the hospital. Lindsay’s also included photos from the couples’ parents on display on their cake table.

Matt and Lindsay advise couples who are beginning to plan their wedding to take in every moment of planning your wedding, write everything down, and get an organizer. An organizer is essential since there are a lot of notes from various vendors that are needed! The couple also says to take a moment, the day of, to just sit back and take in every little detail that you can! The day is over so quickly so it is important to take a minute for yourselves and have a chance to soak it all up!

We love seeing Matt and Lindsay’s rainy day wedding and we wish the couple all the love and joy!
