Nature Lovers Outdoor Wedding

View More Photos

Tawnya and Graham, both nature lovers, brought their love of the outdoors to their wedding. They met each other back in 2007 in a historical Geology class during their undergraduate studies. Graham first noticed Tawny when she supposedly "stole" his seat in class. However, Tawnya told us that she first noticed Graham when they shared the backseat of the Geology van while on a weekend field trip!

For Graham's proposal, Graham and Tawnya traveled to Edinburgh, Scotland! The couple hiked up Arthur's Seat, which is an old volcano. While at the top of the volcano, Tawnya and Graham began to hear distant music and realized that Elton John was playing a concert at the amphitheater on the edge of the city! The couple sat atop of the mountain and took in the view and music, which taking sips of whiskey. It was during the song, Benny and The Jets, when Graham presented Tawnya with a ring box and soon after they were officially engaged!

The most important aspect of the wedding for Tawnya and Graham was the location. For their wedding, Tawnya and Graham wanted to have their ceremony in a relaxed, natural setting. The couple both love the outdoors, so they wanted to incorporate nature. The Wildflower Barn gave the spring woodland feeling they were wanting while also feeling intimate. Tawnya and Graham’s ceremony was really special, as the space was surrounded with all of their loved ones. The flower girls stole the show—Graham’s niece made sure to pelt him with flower petals. The bride's uncle officiated the wedding and began by saying "Hey y'all!... I can't hear you, Hey y'all!", which was the perfect way to start the ceremony! Graham and Tawnya opted for pops of blue, orange and yellow to provide a stark contrast with the surrounding greenery.

For their attire choices, Tawnya chose an off-white dress with a blush undertone. It had subtle yet ornate leaf patterning on the bodice with draping layers from the waist to the floor. She wore a delicate beaded belt to top it off! Graham wore a dark blue suit with a white and gray-checkered shirt and floral tie. The bridesmaids wore floor length dusty blue dresses, each with a slightly different bodice style. The groomsmen wore dark blue slacks with a gray and white checked shirt and tweed vest.

Instead of opting for the traditional activities that occur during a wedding, such as grand entrance announcements, first dances, and flower and garter toss; Tawnya and Graham decided to have a relaxed celebration. Eliminating these events enabled the couple to maximize the time that they got to spend with their guests. They decided to splurge on a photo booth, and everyone has so much fun with it! Guests also got to pick up their "wed-libs" complete with a pencil and a coozie. Since all of the guests traveled for Tawnya and Graham's wedding, the couple wanted favors that guests could easily be packed in their suitcase. Graham and Tawnya really enjoyed reading the wed-libs the next day!

Tawnya and Graham advises couples who are planning their wedding to not sweat the small stuff! Tawnya said that a couple will be so overcome with love the day of that you won't even notice the centerpieces that you put hours of work into. Graham adds to keep it simple. It isn't really about how everything looks but how you feel at the end of the day. And most importantly, set up a reoccuring block of time with your fiance to discuss wedding planning details. Don't let wedding planning overtake all of your conversations!

We absolutely love getting to share this nature loving wedding and we hope you do too!
