Classic Black Tie Affair

View More Photos

We love being able to share classic weddings! There is a reason why so many couples choose a classic theme for their wedding every year, and Tyler and Matt are no exception! Tyler and Matt said I do surrounded by 60 of their closest friends and family. While is was a no frills type of affair, it was meaningful.

Tyler and Matt met their freshman year at Texas Christian University. The couple met through mutual friends and discovered that they lived in the same dorm. Although both were in relationship, they became good friends. As their relationships eventually fizzled out, Tyler and Matt became closer than ever and eventually started dating.

For Matt’s proposal, Matt chose to propose at their alma mater! Tyler remembers that it was a hot day, but Matt kept asking if she would like to take their dog on a walk around campus. Since they lived a few blocks away from TCU’s campus, Tyler didn’t think anything of it. The couple drove over and were walking their dog around when they ended up in the middle of the main grassy area of the campus. Tyler was preoccupied with walking their dog, so Matt had to ask her to stop and turn around. Matt hugged her and then got down on one knee. Tyler jokes that the rest of the proposal is all a blur, but she says that they got married so she must have said yes!

Tyler confesses that she was one of those people who had never envisioned her wedding day or given it any thought. As a result, once she was engaged, she was overwhelmed with all of the possibilities! Tyler reminisces that she knew that she wanted to get married outside, in a setting that was naturally beautiful! When the couple stumbled upon a photographers’ pictures of Camp Lucy, Matt and Tyler knew that it was the perfect venue for them! Camp Lucy is perfect for intimate weddings! Since the venue was stunning on its own, Tyler and Matt decided on keeping the rest of the décor simple with greenery and white flowers.

When wedding dress shopping, Tyler knew that she wanted a dress that she could feel, not only beautiful, but comfortable as well. Tyler was convinced that she was going to choose a looser, more bohemian style dress, but she felt herself gravitate toward the more traditional styles once in the store! The bride tried on her fitted, strapless, lace dress and instantly fell in love! Once Tyler completed her outfit with a cathedral veil, she knew that this was the one! Matt opted to wear a classic tuxedo with a bow tie. In the couples’ minds, the groom never would have chosen anything else!

Both Tyler and Matt agreed that the most important things for their wedding was the food and the alcohol! The couple feels like those two things always stick out in the guests’ minds when looking back on a wedding, so it was vital that those two things were amazing! The couple knew that their wedding cake not only had to look beautiful, but be delicious too! With four tiered rounds and altering layers of white chocolate raspberry and chocolate amaretto with buttercream; the couple has received so many compliments on the cake so they knew that everyone loved it as much as they did! Tyler and Matt are counting down the days until their one-year anniversary so that they can bust out the top tier from their freezer!

Matt and Tyler talked to us about some of their fondest memories! Tyler shared that her father had passed away when she was ten, so the couple really wanted to figure out a way where his presence would continuously be felt throughout their marriage. Tyler and her mother talked about passing along her late father’s wedding band and Matt felt like it was a huge honor. It was a truly special moment when Matt’s father welcomed everyone to the reception and gave the background on the ring! Tyler’s absolute favorite moment, though, was seeing Matt for the first time. The bride was beyond nervous, and just seeing him instantly calmed her nerves. That moment reminded Tyler what the day was really all about.

Matt and Tyler biggest piece of advice for newly engaged couples is to hire a wedding planner! Tyler confesses that she thought that she believed that she could do it all by herself. The bride later realizes that a wedding requires an insane amount of work and planning! The couple admits that they were completely overwhelmed with all of the decisions that had to be made for every detail. However, once the couple’s wedding planner stepped in, they were both able to enjoy one of the most exciting moment in their lives!

We can’t help but fall in love with Tyler and Matt’s classic wedding and we hope that you do too!
