Fun Loving Rutgers Wedding

View More Photos

This is a couple who loves to laugh have a good time! Keri and Garret originally met back in high school and attended many of the same classes. However, they did not have the same group of friends so Keri and Garret never really hung out. In May 2008, Keri was attending a concert when she noticed Garret’s car driving past her in the parking lot. It was then when she decided to call him. Keri and Garret ended up spending the whole day together at the concert and began dating shortly after the show. After high school, they both attended Rutgers University and we’re sure that they feel like they’ve been together forever by now!

Our favorite part of their love story, however, is Garret’s proposal. He had planned a perfect proposal in Hilton Head during a vacation with Keri’s family and later discovered that Keri’s parents had gotten engaged there as well! How sweet is that? Once he had received Keri’s father’s permission, he got to work planning! On their vacation, Garret asked Keri to get ready early before dinner because there was a beautiful spot he knew of nearby the restaurant. The weather was pouring while they were driving but luckily cleared up as soon as they arrived. Once parked, Garret quickly got out of the car and began walking through Spanish Moss trees, with Keri following closely behind. The trees opened up to a small cliff where the bay met the ocean. With the sun setting, Garret proposed to Keri while Keri’s sister and cousin hid in the trees to take pictures of this special moment. Afterwards, Keri and Garret surprised the rest of the family at dinner with the engagement news and proceeded to celebrate for the rest of the vacation!

Keri and Garret tied the knot at Rutgers’ Kirkpatrick Chapel and then celebrated at Windows on the water at Frogbridge. Combined with the beautiful paths, willow trees, and scenic pond; you will definitely fall in love with this beautiful venue! Keri and Garret wanted every aspect of the wedding to be special and meaningful to them, which is why they chose their ceremony venue at their alma mater. Keri’s mother surprised her with a bagpiper playing at the chapel to honor their Irish heritage! However, Keri returned the favor by honoring both of their parents by having the deacon acknowledge both of their 30-year wedding anniversaries! Our favorite moment of their ceremony was when Keri and Garret presented themselves to the other’s parents as being welcomed into their family.

Keri wanted a classy but fun wedding dress. A ball gown was not originally what Keri had been dreaming about, but it was too beautiful not to love! The gorgeous sleeves and beading details are what won Keri over at the end! The bride completed the outfit with Badgley Mischka shoes, her mother’s diamond bracelet, and her sister’s diamond earrings.

It was really important to Keri and Garett to keep the wedding true to their personalities. Above everything else, Keri and Garett wanted the mood to be fun and silly (just like them!). Keri loves to dance, so she asked her father to do a surprise dance for their father-daughter dance. It began with “I Loved Her First” and then the DJ scratched a record to transition to “The Wobble”. The entire wedding jumped to their feet in surprise and then joined the bride on the dance floor! Our favorite moment was when we took the couple took a Rutgers picture with all of the alumni and everyone began chanting Rutgers’s fight song!

Keri and Garett’s advice for couples in the stages of wedding planning is to don’t let anyone change your mind. It is impossible to please every guest so it is important to stay true to yourselves! The couple also advises to take a moment to look from afar at everyone during the reception. Weddings are over in the blink of an eye but everyone is there for you and wants to help you celebrate this special commitment! We loved to get to share this amazing couple’s story and wish them love and happiness!
