Classic Summer Wedding

View More Photos

Now here’s a couple who loves to laugh and have a good time! They met back in high school, had a few classes together and ended up dating after running into each other at a concert one day. Then they ended up at Rutgers University together! Kari and Garret tied the knot at Rutgers’ Kirkpatrick Chapel and then celebrated at Windows on the Water on Frogbridge. Idalia Photography was there to capture their gorgeous day!

Kari and Garret shared with us their vision for the wedding. They wanted every aspect of the wedding to be special and meaningful to them as a couple, which is why they chose to get married at Kirkpatrick Chapel at Rutgers University. While attending college there, they made so many memories and friends. They chose Tumulty’s in New Brunswick for the rehearsal dinner because they went there frequently as students and stayed in the Hyatt Hotel, where they have stayed for homecoming every year since graduation. Keri’s parents surprised her with a bagpiper playing at the chapel to honor her mom’s Irish heritage. Each detail over their wedding weekend was a nod to who they are together!

The couple also shared their most special moments of the day. Kari and Garret agreed that their favorite part was presenting themselves to each other’s parents as being welcomed into their family. Another favorite memory was the father-daughter dance. Keri loves to dance, so as she started planning the wedding, she asked her dad to do a surprise fun dance. They slow danced to “I Loved Her First” and then the DJ scratched a record to transition into “The Wobble”. The entire wedding jumped to their feet in surprise and after a few turns, the bridal part and all of the guests joined in. It was the perfect way to get everyone on the dance floor!

The wedding flowers from Rosie Posies were stunning in the most understated way, with soft yellows and different shades of green and white. Kari and Garret both love the look of lamb’s ear and wanted t incorporated into as many arrangements as possible. The flower wall also served as the perfect backdrop for pictures right in front of the pond.

For the wedding cake, they wanted the cake to be simple but pretty, so the cake had plain fondant with small beads added to the edge of each tier. Palermo’s Custom Cakes and Bakery made a delicious cake with hazelnut filling. The florist also added a few matching flowers to add a pop of color. In addition to the cake, guests were served assorted desserts of cinnamon donuts, cookies and milk, ice cream sandwiches and fruit skewers.

Kari wanted to wear a classy, yet fun wedding dress for their big day. A ball gown was not what she was originally dreaming of, but it was too beautiful not to love! The gorgeous sleeves and beading details really won her over. She also ended up buying glitzy Badgley Mischka shoes to match it, and borrowed her mom’s diamond bracelet and her cousin’s diamond earrings to wear with it. Garret wore a slate colored suit and purchased matching shoes and shirts for all of his groomsmen so they would all match perfectly.

Finally, Kari and Garret shared some advice for couples currently planning their weddings. First, do not let everyone else’s opinions change your mind. Do what you want—it is impossible to please everyone. Also, enjoy the time because the day goes by in the blink of an eye! Take a moment to look from afar at everyone during the reception and realize that they are all here for you and to celebrate this special commitment—it is an overwhelming feeling!
