Today’s vendor love is focusing on The Plantation Barn of 1810, a wedding venue in Morristown, Tennessee. Alice Rogers owns The Plantation Barn and serves the East Tennessee Community with her absolutely gorgeous wedding and event venue. Alice has been in the wedding industry since 1988 consulting, planning and directing weddings. She is celebrating her 30th year this year! Enjoy our conversation about the wedding industry with Alice below.

What brought you into the wedding industry?

While planning my own wedding, I found that I had to go to multiple locations to get the items I needed. This inspired me to open a bridal shop with my sister just months after my high school graduation.

What is a lesson you have learned since being in the wedding industry?

I believe that I can learn something from every event held here on the farm. I try to be open to new ideas and concepts. However, one thing that has stuck out in my mind since the beginning is to be prepared for the unexpected. It may be a nervous flower girl or the ring bearer ate too much candy, the bridesmaid that just popped a zipper or someone stepped on the hemline of the bride’s dress. As a wedding planner and venue owner, you wear many hats. Be prepared to come to the rescue with whichever hat you need to be wearing at the time because when it is show time, there are no do-overs or instant replays.

What is your favorite part of the wedding industry?

I have several favorites during the planning process but my most favorite part of the wedding day is when everyone is looking at the Bride as she is being escorted down the aisle...I am looking at the groom! To me it's his expression at that moment that tells me their love story!

What makes you and your business difference?

We offer a wedding package that allows the bride and groom to have a full week of access to our venue, along with all of our combined services for one low price. This package gives the couple time to take care of all of those details and extras that usually stress them out on the day of the wedding. Our specialty wedding package gives the couple the gift of time. Only one wedding is planned for that week, giving them our undivided attention and commitment to details they desire.

Tell us about one of your favorite couples, weddings or projects.

To select a favorite couple during my tenure would be extremely difficult to do. There are so many that start out as clients but end up as forever friends! In regards to our venue, everyone remembers their first wedding, which was Kristi and Austin. Then there is the very detailed oriented bride that puts Pinterest to shame. Also, the sweet love where you can actually see the little love bubbles popping up between them as if in a cartoon. Oh the joys of young love!

Are you seeing any trends in what couples are wanting for their wedding day when they meet with you?

During my 30-year tenure, I have seen many trends come and go and some making a complete circle and returning! Currently, specific colors are one of those trends making the circle. It's no longer just the basics. One trend that has stepped it up a notch is the boho and woodland themes. We have been able to capture both on our farm and at our venue! Just because we are a barn, doesn't mean we are just mason jars and burlap. Being skilled and experienced in this field, we can help any bride create the wedding she envisions.

What do you wish every couple knew before they walked in your doors for a consult?

My wish for every couple is to be flexible with your wedding date! We all only have so many Saturdays per month.

What piece of advice do you have for couples planning their wedding?

There are a few things that every couple needs to know on wedding planning:

1. Weddings do not have to be stressful.

2. Wedding etiquette and class never goes out of style.

3. Utilize your budget and splurge on yourself for the beautiful venue and photos and what is going to benefit you as a couple in 60 years on your anniversary, not on the food and alcohol that is over in moments.

What can couples expect when they meet and book with you?

One thing we pride our venue on is our customer service. We really like to spoil our couples! We make ourselves available on the level in which the couple needs our help. For some it may be daily, some weekly, some monthly. Even if it is 2 a.m. and our bride is having a Pinterest meltdown, she is welcome to text us basically 24/7. Anytime we can make the planning process easy on our couples, the better the wedding day and less stress.

Is there anything else you would like to share about your venue or services?

On top of the one-on-one relationship between the wedding planner and the couple, we also have extras to make their planning easier. We have on staff a graphic designer that will custom design invitations, save the dates, programs, fans and all sorts of items without charging a design fee - only a print fee. We also are able to create many items to help with their budget such as embroidered robes, hats, tumblers, dress hangers, shirts etc. for far less than online plus there are no shipping fees involved. We also do cord of three strand units, sand ceremony items, custom signs and banners as well. These services are not limited to our couples, but we do offer our clients a discounted rate just to spoil them a bit more!

We so enjoyed learning more about the Plantation Barn of 1810 and we hope you all did too!
