5 Things to Know Before Hiring Your Wedding Photographer

Your wedding day is going to be one of the most important days of your life. Through the days and months you’ve spent planning and designing, there is that one thing that will last longer than the party: the photographs. The day will go by so quickly you won’t even remember all the details you’ve spent nights dreaming about. This is where your photographer comes in. Your photographer will be by your side throughout the entire day capturing all your moments of happiness. Not sure how to start on choosing your personal paparazzi through the day? Check out these five things you should know before hiring your photographer.

1. Know your wedding and photography style.

No two wedding photographers are alike. Each has their own style and photograph in different ways. Are you looking for more light and airy photographs or are you looking for a dark and moody kind of feel? When you are doing your initial search, look at the photographer’s portfolio. Does their work match what you are looking for? Keep in mind you will be looking back at your wedding photographs for the rest of your life; find a style that suits you!

2. Know your budget.

You don’t have to know the exact number, but know what you would be willing to spend. Don’t waste your time falling in love with photographers that are completely out of your budget. Keep in mind that this works both ways: If the price is too good to be true, it most likely is. Make sure you aren’t sacrificing the quality of your photos with such a low price.

3. Know your “must haves”.

What photographs are the most important for you? Do you want a photographer with everybody when you first start hair and make-up or would you only want them there for the start of the ceremony? Figure out what matters to you most. Most photographers have packages in which you select based on how many hours you need them for. Are getting ready shots a necessity for you? Then opt in for a longer hour package to get all of the details of hair and makeup!

4. Know your “add-ons”.

Is it important for your photographers to deliver your photos by prints and/or albums or have a general print release? Photographers typically have a preferred company where they get their prints and albums from and some just deliver your pictures in an online gallery with a print release. Some photographers also offer additional services like graphic design for your invitation suite or a photo booth for your event.

5. Know your personality.

Your photographers are going to be with you for your entire wedding day. Their style may be important to you, but if you don’t get along with them, it will show in pictures. Find someone you have joy in being around and would even consider inviting to the wedding! We suggest booking an engagement session with them before your big day to make you more comfortable.
