Engaged In Nashville

Downtown Nashville Engagement Session

Photographer: Erin Lee Allender Photography

Kelly, Neil, a blush tulle skirt, Nashville, and sweet puppy 'Major'.... the perfect engagement session if you ask us! Nashville is one of the most diverse cities when it comes to locations for engagement sessions and these two really wanted to show off this incredible city as it is where they share their very first home. From the famous 'I believe in Nashville' sign (located on 12 South, FYI!), to hidden alleys and cozy restaurants, these two did it all. We absolutely fell in love with Kelly's sweet tulle skirt, which added a touch of whimsy to their fun engagement session. Erin Lee Allender Photography did a fantastic job capturing the fun-loving, easy love that these two share.

You won't want to miss the story of how they started dating (including a mutual distaste for another University!) and their proposal story...

How did you meet?

During the summer of 2013, Kelly and Neil met through mutual friends in Atlanta. Kelly was living in Atlanta for the summer and Neil was in town for a golf tournament. After getting to know each other a little bit better, Neil mustered up the confidence to ask Kelly on our first date. The conversation was going great but Neil really stole Kelly's heart when he said he really hates the University of Florida, too. As time progressed, they started dating and have been together ever since.

What is your proposal story?

Kelly had no clue about the proposal, except that it would happen sometime in the next few years. Little did she know, Neil had a different plan in mind. He coordinated with her close friends and family to fly into town without letting her know. On Friday, August 19th, Kelly came home from work and was getting ready to go grab a drink with Neil at one of their Friday happy hour spots. When Neil got home, he said that, instead, they were going to go to a nice steakhouse to celebrate his belated birthday and that they’d grab a drink at the bar before they got seated. As Kelly was upstairs getting ready, Neil called her downstairs, telling her he wanted to ask her something. When Kelly got downstairs, she saw Neil and their dog standing and staring at her. To her complete surprise, their dog had a sign around his neck that says “Will you marry my Daddy”? Kelly was speechless (which doesn't happen often) so she just stood there for a few seconds, trying to process what was actually going on. Neil finally bent down on one knee and said…so is this a yes? And all Kelly could do was shake her head yes, because she was still absolutely speechless! Fast forward, and they just arrived to the steakhouse for dinner. Kelly noticed that Neil was walking a bit faster than usual, but figured it was just because he was so excited. They get to the bar to grab a drink, and all of a sudden, Kelly's close friends and family (all from out-of-state) jump out and TOTALLY surprise her. Talk about being in a complete state of shock! They told Kelly that Neil had coordinated this surprise with them and that they would be here all weekend to celebrate their engagement. Kelly's heart was so full and she still can’t believe that Neil was able to pull this surprise off without her finding out!

Tell us about your ring!

Kelly thinks her ring is absolutely perfect! Neil designed it himself and made it very classic-looking, which Kelly loves. It is a 2 karat cushion-cut diamond with 5-point diamonds on the band. Kelly's wedding band is an eternity band that matches the engagement ring.

Tell us about your outfit and accessories for the session.

Kelly and Neil wore 3 different outfits during their engagement shoot. The first outfits were more casual/simple, as the places they first went to were, as well. Kelly wore a berry pink top with jeans and Neil wore a button down dress shirt with jeans. The only jewelry Kelly wore were diamond stud earrings and her engagement ring. The second outfits were more trendy-sweet. Kelly wore a light pink tulle skirt (thanks H&M!) and a denim shirt that she had tied up a little bit, and Neil wore jeans, a white button down dress shirt, and a navy sports coat. They wore these outfits for pictures that were taken in the park and at Printer’s Alley (more industrial-chic- more colorful/vibrant backgrounds). Kelly wore a dark teal dress for her third outfit for pictures that were taken by the river. These were more “formal” pictures that had the Nashville skyline in the background. Kelly wore very neutral makeup and minimal accessories because she wanted the focus to be on Neil and her and their love, rather than their outfits/accessories. However, both Neil and Kelly say that their best accessory in the photos was their dog, as he was included in the majority of the engagement session photos.
