The not-so-boring Boring Wedding

Photographer: Erin Morrison Photography | Floral Design:  Lisa Foster Floral Design

Talk about such romantic and whimsical details for a perfect wedding day!

Demi-Raine and Derek's lovely wedding at Ramble Creek Vineyard & Events in Athens, TN was a beauty for sure. Their love story begins much earlier than this wedding day, though from a short and sweet date that ended with talking in the parking lot for hours... obviously these two didn't want the night to end! Below you'll have to read the way Demi-Raine recalls the day the got engaged and Derek's heartfelt proposal, we certainly felt all the feels.

For their wedding day, Demi-Raine and Derek dreamed of a scenic place and a celebration with a laid back vibe. With lavender and purple accents, their decor felt elegant with a touch of whimsy that added to the romance of the day. We loved every single image by Erin Morrison Photography so we added tons and tons for you to swoon over it all with us!

Couple:  Derek Boring & Demi-Raine Opp

Event Date: April 27, 2017

How did you meet?

Derek and I met at work. It was hard to find reasons to talk to each other without being too obvious, so he started IM'ing me every morning. He even took his laptop on vacation so he could get on to IM me a little bit that week. We decided to go out for drinks one night after work and ended up only having one or two and leaving. When we got to our cars we stood in the parking lot for 4 hours just talking.

What is your proposal story?

I never thought he'd get away with this, but I had no idea that it was coming! We were headed up to the mountains to stay with his grandparents for a night and he pulled off the road to a mountain overlook. I asked what we were doing and he said we had plenty of time so he wanted to show me the view. There were some people there so he waited until they left then pulled into a space - at this point I had finally caught on to what was happening. I hopped out and went to look at the sights. He came around a minute later and was acting a little strange, so I made a joke to help calm both our nerves. Then he bent down and asked me to marry him. I knew that it was coming but I was still shocked; I asked him three times if he was joking before I answered him!

Tell us about your wedding vision, style, and choices.

We only viewed one other venue before we decided on Ramble Creek. It was just stunning with the lawn options and the beautiful reclaimed wood from the property that they used to make the barn. I knew it would be the perfect place for the laid back wedding that we wanted. Other details I wasn't so sure about, like the color scheme. When I started looking into it, I just found too many colors that I thought were beautiful, so I finally just had my fiancé pick. We chose purple, and instead of doing a complimentary color I wanted to use shades of purple. It all came together really well in the end!

Tell us about your wedding day attire.

I spent the weekend in Atlanta with my sister (matron of honor) trying on dresses until we found the perfect one. Once I had that figured out, everything else just fell into place! The bridesmaid dresses were all picked according to the body type of the girl who would wear it, and then complimentary colors to their skin tones as well. I decided to go with tan suits for the gents, because traditional black was going to clash and blue or brown just weren't going to look as nice. Tan also kept the laid back vibe that we were going for so the wedding didn't feel too stuffy.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning?

We just wanted to make sure that the event was true to us and really reflected who we are individually and as a couple. That's why the laid back vibe was absolutely vital for our wedding.

What were your favorite memories of the day?

My favorite part was probably the DIY photo booth! It turned out to be SO much fun and we got a lot of great photos from everyone that we'll have forever

Tell us about your wedding flowers

I've always loved peonies so I made sure that they were in my bouquet. We all had white with purple accents in our bouquets and they were the garden picked look instead of the uniform, formal bouquet style. I also got some extra baby's breath and larkspur to decorate the windows and additional tables for the reception. The centerpieces were similar to the bridesmaids bouquets, and we had a memory bouquet for those who are no longer with us that was like mine but a bit smaller.

Tell us about your wedding cake.

Neither of us really likes cake all that much, so we decided to have the venue bake cobbler with fresh ice cream for dessert instead. It was a real hit!

What did you do for favors?

Our favors were mini cast iron pans with DIY brownie mix inside. I thought that people would enjoy having something to serve dessert or dips.
