Should I Do a Boudoir Session ?

Boudoir Q & A with Winx Photo

Boudoir Photography - Celebrating Your Best Self

Knoxville Boudoir Photographer

Boudoir photography can evoke feelings and emotions that are different for everyone. Some brides will feel empowered where others feel intimidated, some will feel exhilaration and be filled with confidence when others will feel absolutely terrified.  While these ranges of feelings are completely normal, I would to encourage you to book the session and embrace all of the beautiful details of yourself.

The time during your engagement is a really special season of your life. One that you'll look back on fondly as you and your partner grow in your marriage and having this romantic keepsake is something you'll be glad that you have in the years to come!

I sat down with Knoxville wedding and boudoir photographer, Winx Photo, to chat all about boudoir photography as she shared her top client questions about boudoir photography!

Boudoir Photography Q & A with Quin from Winx Photo

There are two things I know a lot about; self confidence and giving really memorable gifts. Those two things don't intersect a lot, but when they do, magic happens.

Lets lay it all out there, I'm a plus sized gal. I'm relatively confident in my own stretchmarked skin, but like most people I know, planning to be a bride took me through some rough patches with my body and my own self perception.

The internet is littered with perfection, and its hard to not feel the insurmountable stress of that. Thats where I wish I could take my own advice, go back in time, and schedule a boudoir session. I wouldn't just do it as a gift for my husband (though, lets be honest here, he'd still be picking his jaw up off the floor), I would do it for me. I would do it for the confidence boost that I see every single woman I photograph walk out of the studio with. I would do it to see myself in a different light.

My name is Quinn, and I own Winx Photo with my husband, Jesse. We shoot every session and wedding together except for boudoir. Boudoir sessions are mine and mine alone. Boudoir photography is the heart and soul of why I want to be a photographer, so today, I thought I'd share a little bit about them and a little bit about me in the form of a few questions I get regularly.

Q: How would you describe your boudoir style?
A: Classic, tasteful, and ethereal. I know that a lot of photographers and clients alike look at boudoir as a taboo subject, but I look at it more as an art form. I focus heavily on your natural movements and body language, as well as light.

Q: Do I need to be skinny/curvy/young/confident/tan etc to have a boudoir session?
A. The short answer is NO. The long answer is that you are you and that's exactly who you should plan on being at your shoot, because I plan on being me. Your shoot is a chance to celebrate yourself and your body. Its so easy to put off doing something for yourself until you lose that extra 5lbs or until you get a tan, but the truth is, there will always be something holding you back. Decide that you would like to do a session, then DO IT.

Q: Do I need to be getting married?
A: Getting married and giving your session as a gift to your husband is a GREAT idea, but that's certainly not the only reason you should do a session like this! I've had everyone from single ladies to ladies who haven't been single in 20+ years schedule a shoot. There is no wrong time to have a boudoir session.

Q: Do you include hair and makeup?
A: Yes! I work with a team of top notch artists who not only make you look and feel beautiful, but keep you laughing and excited for your session!

Q: Are you going to share my pictures all over the internet?
A: Absolutely not. While I am always happy to have ladies choose to share their sessions, that is completely up to you. Your privacy is of the utmost importance to my team and myself, so we'll never share anything you aren't comfortable with.

Q: I am super awkward in front of the camera and don't know how to pose, what should I do?
A: For starters, I have yet to have a single woman walk in and know exactly what to do. 90% of the time, "Sorry, I'm awkward." is said within 2 minutes of our shoot. That's why I do pose coaching. I know what poses you're gonna rock, and what poses may need a little work.

Q: What happens after my session?
A: About 2 weeks after your session, you'll receive an online gallery of your images. After that, you can order a canvas, high quality prints in a keepsake box, or your very own little black book!

Q: Why do you love boudoir?
A: I love boudoir because I love empowering women. I firmly believe that empowered people empower people, so I love getting to be the catalyst. Seeing someone grow confident in their own skin right before my very eyes is something I don't think I'll ever get over.
