Why we love Weekday Weddings

Why We Love Weekday Weddings

Have you ever considered getting married during the week? For so many couples a weekday wedding does not even cross their mind, however there are some pretty great perks to getting married on a weekday! Wedding vendors generally love weekday weddings, and here’s why…

Most wedding vendors love the opportunity to work during the week rather than on the weekend. When serving a couple getting married during the week, vendors are often able to focus solely on that wedding rather than being spread thin by multiple bookings.

As a result of this, a weekday wedding is a great way to save money!

  • Almost all venues have lower rental rates through the week - some even waive the room rental entirely. Other vendors such as photographers, DJs and makeup artists maybe willing to offer a discount as well, considering that weekdays are usually thought of as off-peak booking dates, even in the summer. Choosing a wedding date that falls during the week is an easy way to have your dream wedding and stay on budget!

Other vendors, such is your florist, cake designer or caterer may not be able to alter their price because their costs for supplies remain the same. However, weekday weddings often result in a smaller guest count, so the final bill will be a little lower.

With that in mind, it's important to remember that planning with the wedding is kind of like planning a destination wedding - you need to be prepared that many people won’t be able to make it. But, if you know that your VIP guests (the people who are most important to you) will be able to attend, go for it!

There are ways to make it easier for people to attend your weekday wedding.

  • First of all, give plenty of notice. Send out Save The Date cards as soon as possible, or even a simple text or email to let people know of your intentions so that they have as much time as possible to book time off work or make travel arrangements.
  • If people are going to take time off work and travel to bet at your wedding, be sure to make the trip worthwhile for them. If you're hosting out of town guests, encourage them to stay the weekend and give them fun things to do with you and your new spouse. Schedule a Friday brunch or a Saturday hike with your old college buddies that you may not have seen in years.  Hop up to Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge and race go carts, play putt-putt, or catch a show with your family and friends.  Let them know that rather then making big trip just for a ceremony and reception that last a few hours, you'll be hosting them for an awesome vacation as well.

If most of your guest list is local, one way to ensure that most people can make it is to schedule your ceremony for the evening.

  • Plan for a 7 PM ceremony so people can come after work. An added bonus is that evening weddings are great way to save money as well, since you can spoil your guests with lots of appetizers and treats without providing a full sit-down meal.

Work with your Dream Vendors!

Weekday weddings are also a great way to plan a wedding on short notice with your wedding professionals! While most reputable vendors book out months (and sometimes years!) in advance, there’s a great chance that you will be able to find a weekday within a month or two that all of your dream vendors are available.

Another added bonus of getting married during the week is that if you decide to leave for your honeymoon right after the wedding, flights are generally cheaper on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Saving on flights might mean that you can splurge on something else when you’re away.

At the end of the day, a weekday wedding is not common for most vendors or wedding guests. By getting married on a day other that Saturday or Sunday, you open the door for your wedding to be unique and non-traditional, and totally your own.
