Wedding Decor 101: Renting vs Buying

Should I rent my wedding decor or should I buy?

For almost every couple planning a wedding, an important part of bringing the vision to life is shopping around find the most affordable way to do so. Often, with linens, chair covers, lighting, and plenty of other decor elements, savvy shoppers will soon find that it may seem to be more cost-effective to buy rather than to rent – especially with the hope of selling items to another bride-to-be after the wedding.

Of course, there are pros and cons to either option. While buying linens online may have a lower price tag at first glance, there are a few other things to consider before making a decision.

Experience

Rental companies are experts at what they do, and the advice and experience they have to offer is invaluable. They’ve seen every venue, color scheme, and logistic hurdle out there, and will use that expertise to help achieve your wedding vision.

Storage

All of that wedding decor needs somewhere to live before the big day! It’s inevitable that you will have some items to store before the wedding, but if you have limited space around the home, the warehouse of a rental company may be the best place for bulky items.

Logistics

Getting the decor to and from your wedding venue, and the logistics of setting everything up can pose a challenge – some couples end up renting a moving truck to get the job done! If you’re very organized, and have lots of help from friends and family, this might work well for you. But be prepared to work much harder when you take this on without the help of professionals. However, sometimes the best option is the easiest one. Most wedding rental companies offer both delivery and set up services, which are well worth the time and energy they will save you.

After the Wedding

The music stops, the friends go home, and your incredible wedding day becomes a collection of memories and photos… and a giant pile of linens that need to be hauled to the laundromat, cleaned, folded, and listed for sale online. After the wedding, there’s a good chance you’ll want to rest and relax as newlyweds, and organizing a house full of wedding decor may be the last thing you want to do.

While both renting and buying your wedding decor and linens have some clear benefits, the difference comes in price versus effort. If you’ve got lots of help, space and time to research options, buying items may be the best option for you. But just remember, you’ll be giving up some peace of mind and asking for quite a bit of extra help. However, if you’re looking for less effort, and the help of someone with plenty of experience, booking rentals through a great local business may be your best bet!

Plus, who wants to iron all of those linens anyway?
