Vendor Spotlight: Leah Moyers Photography

One look at Leah Moyers Photography portfolio, and you’re bound to feel something. Her priority when shooting a wedding is to make couples relax and have fun, and this is so clearly evident in her work. As a wedding photographer who considers herself “a professional wedding guest with cameras,” Leah has a way of capturing all of the emotional, quirky and candid moments at a wedding.

After studying fine art photography in Baltimore and Chicago, and working with Jeremy Lawson in Chicago, Leah relocated to her hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee, and later to Wears Valley. “It's gorgeous!” she says of life in Tennessee. “I live near the Smoky Mountains National Park and absolutely love shooting there, in Knoxville and East Tennessee. The landscape is stunning and the people are kind.”

When it comes to photographing weddings, there are many things that Leah loves about working in this field.

“I am interested in capturing what a wedding day feels like and believe in authentic wedding photography. I enjoy capturing true personalities, the spirit of a wedding day and what’s important to my couples. I love giving them the gift of reliving all of the sweet, hilarious, emotional, quirky and behind the scenes moments. I especially love catching all of the funny moments that will make my brides and grooms laugh and the emotional moments that make everyone (including me) cry. Wedding professionals know what to expect from the structure of the day and past experience but all the variables make it interesting!”

It’s obvious that her passion for authentic wedding photography is well-placed. While she counts it a career highlight to work alongside incredible vendors and to develop friendships with her couples, she’s also had the opportunity to travel to unique places. Not to mention being included in a number of Huffington Post wedding articles and working with Green Wedding Shoes, Fearless Photographers, the Wedding Photojournalist Association, H&H Weddings and Grey Likes Weddings.

Even though she’s been in business for a number of years, there are plenty of things that Leah loves about working in the wedding industry in 2017.

“Couples are planning less traditional weddings and trusting their instincts more. Although most of my work comes from referrals, social media now connects us with clients near and far… I love destination wedding weekends where couples give guests time to get to know each other before the wedding which brings groups of friends together. I notice that couples are having smaller more intimate weddings and focusing on their love and connection to each other. Also donuts, lots of donuts.”

This year, full-day wedding clients of Leah Moyers Photography will be receiving a small complimentary album along with a set of 100 prints. She offers four flat rates, which cover pricing for local half-day coverage, local full wedding day coverage, U.S. and International destinations.

Leah’s wedding clients often include couples who let their personalities shine through with unique weddings and meaningful details. She encourages couples to make their wedding unique by being themselves and drawing wedding planning ideas from their life together.

In her eyes, the most important thing that couples need to know when hiring a wedding photographer is to hire someone you make a connection with. “We will spend a lot of time together,” she says, “and all photographers want you to hire the person best for you two.”

Lastly, we asked Leah if she could give couples one piece of advice, what would that be?

“Leave your phone at home and enjoy spending time with your honey and celebrating. Enjoy every second of your day and definitely don't stress- nothing in life is perfect but the day will be very close to it! Hold hands during the ceremony and if you feel uncomfortable being photographed just smile. Everyone looks beautiful when they smile.”
