Florist in Knoxville: L.B. Floral

The floral designs of Knoxville florist, Lesley Britt, owner at L.B. Floral, has made me swoon ever since I met her in 2012, so to say the least, it was an honor to be able to meet with her for this interview! She told me where her inspiration comes from, what drives her passion, and why she love her job. When it comes to floral design, Lesley is the queen of glam and grace! Each arrangement she designs is feminine in every way and filled with so much class and unique style.

I had the pleasure of working with Lesley for a style shoot I designed this Christmas with Custom Love Gifts and JoPhoto, and I could not get over how much ambition, hard work, and creativity was inside this one woman! The style shoot was a 15 hour day, and I’m not sure Lesley stopped a moment unless it was to add a bit more sparkle to the model’s bouquet! From personal experience, Lesley is not only an incredibly talented artist, but also a wedding professional I am proud to know. She is a joy to work with, kind-hearted, and determined to make her clients’ vision come to life. I cannot recommend her enough whether you are looking for something simple and elegant or gorgeous and extravagant!

Enjoy the photos below of Lesley’s work as well as my interview to get to know the creator behind the designs.

Tell me how your passion for flowers and weddings started?

Both of my grandmother’s had huge gardens with a  large variety of flowers. When I was a little girl, they would teach me about the flowers… what season they grow, their colors, how to arrange them, and most importantly, they let me pick them! I would arrange them on their kitchen tables, which is where my first floral design ideas began. When I was a teenager, my aunt Tammy opened her own flower shop in Knoxville. As I helped her in her shop, she taught me so much about design and inspired me to form my own style. I’ll never forget this one centerpiece I designed in Tammy’s shop – it was a memorable arrangement of peonies that helped me find my own style focussed around glam, femininity, and elegant beauty.

How would you describe your style?

I would describe my style three ways… garden romance, southern, and glamorous. I love using flowers you would find in a home grown garden like hydrangeas, roses, and peonies. My style usually combines elegance and class with tasteful drama. I enjoy creating cascading designs and unique, eye catching pieces that are truly memorable. However, when I meet with a bride, I enjoy catering to her style whether it is simple or extravagant. We talk about her vision and look through hundreds of stock photos so that she and I can create a design that is exactly what she dreamed of.

What makes you unique?

I feel that my enthusiasm for helping the bride find exactly what she is looking for makes me unique. It takes time and patience to figure out exactly what makes the bride’s eyes light up, and I feel that I have an unusual amount of determination to help her discover a style that is completely hers. I always try to create a design for brides that is unique (one they did not see at their friend’s wedding.) Each bride deserves a look that is all their own and reflects their own personality and style. This is what we spend a lot of our time doing when we first meet.

What are some of your favorite wedding trends for 2014?

Flower crowns are really becoming popular. I’m also seeing bridal bouquets becoming more whimsical and natural. They are less structured now and more cascading. The movie, Great Gatsby, has inspired more vintage-glam weddings than ever before, and I’m loving it! I also see a lot of dramatic accents being used like floral candelabras and floral table runners.

How did your passion for weddings begin?

I was the last of my friends to get married, so I did the flowers for all my friends’ weddings. It was so rewarding to see how the ideas that we planned on paper came to life on the wedding day. I fell in love with the whole process from beginning to end, and that’s when I knew I would never get tired of it and wanted to be a florist full time.

What is your favorite part about a wedding?

When he first sees her… it is such a release of tension. The bride wonders for months what he will think of all that she has done for the wedding – how she looks, the dress she picked, the way she is wearing her hair – and at this moment he sees it all come together. It’s such a big moment filled with so much emotion!

When you’re not working, what do you like to do for fun?

I love to spend time with my family. Everyone in my family gets a cute birthday party , which is such a fun way to share my creativity with my family. I really enjoy cultural events. This includes pretty much anything at the Tennessee Theater, ballets, and movies with my husband and friends. I’m also a total shopaholic! Fashion and home decor are two things I never seem to get tired of.
